Public Speaking & Youth Programming
Project type
Community Engagement & Youth Outreach
Date
2017
Location
Madison, WI
As one of the founding members of the Madison Police Department’s CORE (Community Outreach Resource Education) program, I had the opportunity to lead youth engagement initiatives aimed at fostering trust, mentorship, and education between law enforcement and the community.
Through school visits, mentorship programs, and interactive career-focused events, the CORE team worked to break down barriers, create positive, non-enforcement interactions with youth, and provide valuable life skills and leadership opportunities. One of the most impactful components of my role was leading speaking engagements at local schools, where I discussed community safety, career pathways, and the role of law enforcement in public service.
💡 Program Highlights:
- Youth Academies: Leadership development programs for Black and Latino youth
- Mentorship Initiatives: Partnerships with Big Brothers Big Sisters and local businesses
- ‘See It to Be It’ Initiative: Career exploration opportunities for middle and high school students
- Friday Nights at the Y: Building community trust through recreational activities
- Explorer Post 911: Law enforcement career training for youth interested in public service
