Date
November 2017
Location
Dane County, WI
In November 2017, I launched #NightlyLockUp, a social media-driven crime prevention campaign for the Madison Police Department aimed at reducing car break-ins and gun thefts. Using Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, I created engaging content—including memes, videos, and interactive posts—to remind the community to lock their vehicles at night.
What started as an experiment in digital public safety quickly gained traction, increasing community awareness and engagement across social media platforms. The campaign’s reach extended beyond Madison, with other police departments adopting #NightlyLockUp for their own jurisdictions.
The campaign’s success also led to Madison Area Crime Stoppers sponsoring a billboard, which I coordinated, on the Beltline featuring the #NightlyLockUp message, further amplifying its impact.
💡 Results & Impact:
- Increased social media engagement and community awareness
- Inspired other police departments to launch similar initiatives
- Led to billboard sponsorship for additional outreach
- Helped reinforce crime prevention best practices in the Madison area
